Euro 2012 Group Predictions
After the close of the domestic season there’s no hold up, its straight on to the Euros. And for once, it seems England isn’t expecting. Roy Hodgson isn’t of course writing off England’s chances, nor should he. However we’ve all been there before only to have our high hopes dashed. Perhaps this time, the lack of expectation from the country can aid England in making a positive impact on the competition.
Unfortunately racism is once again at the forefront of topics of discussion and the competition hasn’t even yet got underway. We have to hope and pray that the the tournament goes by with no incidents and the police are able to keep order throughout, the last thing we want is the tournament spoiled with ugly incidents.
Sixteen teams compete in the group stages battling to make the knockout stage. Unsurprisingly, Spain are the bookies favourites being both World Champions and defending European Champions, with Germany second followed by the Netherlands. Group B is the traditional “Group of Death” this time around featuring World Cup Runners-up Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Denmark. The Republic of Ireland face the tough task of facing World Champions Spain, Italy and Croatia.
So without further ado, here are my group predictions:
Group A
1.Russia
2.Poland
3.Greece
4.Czech Rep.
Group B
1.Netherlands
2.Germany
3.Portugal
4.Denmark
Group C
1.Spain
2.Rep Ireland
3.Italy
4.Croatia
Group D
1.England
2.Ukraine
3.France
4.Sweden
So, there we have it. In the next part of the blog, I’ll be adding predictions for the knockout stage.
